Jon Carroll, a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, can be counted on to provide a fresh take on any controversy of the day. What he does particularly well is to think. Then he writes it down, before the thought evaporates.
Here's his latest column, today, on TV actress ("Desperate Housewives") Nicolette Sheridan, who drops her towel, baring her assets, to former 49'er Terrell Owens, on national TV, Monday Night Football. Is she related to Yours Truly? Dunno, but I hope so. This sounds like something a Sheridan would do. Other side of the same bog, probably.
The howls, oh the howls!
Janet Jackson bares one breast to the nation and Nicolette bares two (I assume there's two, her back was to the camera, and you know Trial Lawyer's Rule #1: Assume Nothing!).
So now we're in a dither again. Someone is, anyway. I thought the episode was cute, but that's just because breasts and I have reached a sort of accommodation. If they try not to to bother me, I try not to bother them.
At any rate, Carroll does what I like to see, which is to think things through in an area where clear, hard thinking is more the exception than the rule. He also pulls in a lot of seeming side-examples which he relates for contrast until they're no longer side examples but direct evidence that we may all be nuts, excepting you'n'me, of course, thus making his point.
So if you really have any interest in weapons of mass destruction, see Carroll on breasts.
